Lead Interaction Designer | 2007-2011
Led the user research and experience design of a custom content management system as part of a dedicated product team. Using contextual inquiry, stakeholder interviews and process analysis, worked with editors, producers, taxonomists, photo editors and development leads to understand user needs and envision ways to evolve the product to support them.
Achievements:
TIPS Content Management – Grew the feature set from an alpha candidate to a beta platform that supported digital publishing for 8 websites. Pitched and gained the company’s investment in the design of an enterprise system. Oversaw the work of other designers on the editorial interface and an admin toolset.
Magazine Sites – Led the experience design for a Health.com relaunch and the search/browse experience for Myhomeideas.com.

Responsible for the scoping, scheduling, resourcing and delivery of all IA efforts. Made strategic recommendations to product and senior management, based on competitive reviews, user research and data analysis.
Achievements:
Led the IA team to BN.com’s #1 ranking in the ACSI’s Internet Retailing category three years in a row.
Oversaw the experience strategy and design for all IA initiatives, including accountless checkout, a B&N Jr. redesign and the launch of the Home & Office product line.

Achievements:
Developed the experience strategy and design for shopping cart, checkout and order status. Created a new add-to-cart experience that increased the add rate by 25%.
Designed the experience for gift card purchase and redemption, product detail display for 4 MM+ titles and BN.com’s first store inventory look-up.
